Have you ever wondered how an idea becomes a pattern, and then a phone case or a cushion? Today, I invite you into my creative process: a look behind the scenes at By C Studio®, where illustrations are transformed into cheerful products for everyday life.

It always starts with a sketch

My design process always starts with drawing, and you'll often find me sketching outdoors. I'm endlessly inspired by the changing seasons, blooming flowers, beach walks, and small details in nature. Whether it's spring blossoms, sun-kissed leaves, or seashells, I take many photos, and at home, I draw in Procreate or in my sketchbook with pencil or watercolor.

I love how natural light and fresh air bring ideas to life. That's why many of my prints feel seasonal.

Refining and building patterns

Once back in my studio, I open Adobe Illustrator to transform my sketches into seamless surface patterns. This step is about refinement, cleaning up lines, exploring layouts, and building repeating patterns that work beautifully on products.

I carefully choose color palettes that reflect the season I'm designing for, from pastel-colored florals to sunny lemon hues. With Illustrator, I can scale and adjust everything until the design feels just right.

This part takes the most time, but it's also where the magic happens. It's so beautiful to see a loose sketch grow into a professional pattern.

Bringing patterns to life

Once a pattern is complete, I upload it to my print-on-demand platform. From there, I apply it to products like phone cases, cushions, all available in my shop.

Because I use POD, each item is made to order. This reduces waste and allows for a wide variety of designs and sizes. It's wonderful to see my artwork come to life on real products, and even more special to know that they are used and loved in homes around the world.

In my studio

My studio is a cozy space full of light, sketchbooks, favorite color swatches, and of course, our Maine Coon Charlie Bubbles. There's usually a cup of tea nearby and music playing in the background.

I divide my days between drawing, editing, uploading, content planning, and occasionally just daydreaming about future collections. I love that every day is different, and every design has its own story.

Why I love sharing my process
